It's terrorism, nothing else: Asaduddin Owaisi jabs Dr Umar's 'suicide bombing' video

 AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday lashed out at Dr Umar Un Nabi, the man who carried out the November 10 car blast near Delhi's Red Fort, saying his actions were not "misunderstood" and that it was an act of terror and "nothing else".

In a new video that emerged on Tuesday, Dr Umar, a doctor from Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district, was heard talking about how the concept of suicide bombing was "very misunderstood" and a "martyrdom operation" in Islam.

Hitting out at Dr Umar, Owaisi said suicide is forbidden in Islam and that his actions were also "against the law of the land".

"There is an undated video of Delhi blasts accused Umar Nabi justifying suicide bombing as 'martyrdom,' and that it's 'misunderstood.' Suicide is haram in Islam and the killing of innocents is a grave sin. Such acts are also against the law of the land. They are not 'misunderstood' in any way. This is terrorism and nothing else," he wrote on X.

Targeting Home Minister Amit Shah, Owaisi recalled the former's statement in Parliament that no Kashmiri had joined any terror group in the past six months.

"During Operation Sindoor and Mahadev, Amit Shah had assured Parliament that no local Kashmiri had joined terror groups in the last six months. Where did this group come from then? Who is accountable for the failure to detect this group?" he said.

Speaking in fluent English, Dr Umar said in the video that what is labelled a "suicide bombing" was actually a "martyrdom operation" in Islam, offering a glimpse into the would-be suicide bomber's radicalised mindset.

Officials investigating the Red Fort blast believe the November 10 explosion was accidental. Dr Umar planned on eventually carrying out a large-scale suicide bombing.

The blast ripped through a busy street near the historic monument, killing at least 14 people and injuring more than 20 others. The force of the blast shattered shopfronts and sent panic across the Old Delhi area, one of the most crowded parts of the capital.

Investigators believe Umar, the most radicalised member of the "white-collar" Faridabad terror module that planned the Red Fort blast, made the video to brainwash individuals.

The module linked to the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) allegedly included nine to 10 members, among them five to six doctors, who worked at the tainted Al-Falah Univerity in Faridabad and used their medical credentials to procure chemicals and materials for explosives.

In a separate and significant development, the Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday arrested Jawad Ahmed Siddiqui, founder of Al-Falah University and chairman of the Al-Falah Group, in a money laundering case that is also being examined for possible terror-financing links.

Delhi Bomber Visited Pulwama Home Week Before Blast, Gave His Phone To Brother

 

In the first confirmation that the chilling video by the Delhi suicide bomber, Dr Umar Mohammad alias Umar-un-Nabi, was shot at least a week before he blew up an explosives-laden car near the Red Fort, sources have told NDTV that the clip was on a phone Nabi had given to his brother at their house in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama earlier this month.

Ever since the video of Nabi terming suicide bombings "martyrdom operations" emerged on Tuesday, speculation has been rife about when it was shot and the sequence of events leading up to the bombing, in which 13 people were killed.

Sources have told NDTV that a week before Nabi carried out the attack on November 10, he had visited the family's house in Pulwama. Before he left for Faridabad, where he worked at the Al Falah University as an assistant professor in the General Medicine department, Nabi handed over one of his two phones to his brother.   

The sources said that the brother heard about the arrest of Nabi's colleagues at the Al Falah University, Dr Adeel Ahmed Rather - for putting up posters linked to a terror outfit in Srinagar - on November 7, and then Dr Muzammil Shakeel - in connection with an explosives haul in Faridabad - on November 9. The next day, before the bombing near the Red Fort, he found out Dr Shaheen Saeed had also been arrested. 

"He knew they were his brother's colleagues and friends and said he had heard the police were looking for Nabi as well," said a source. 

Nabi's brother panicked and dumped the phone in a pond near their house in Pulwama. When investigators tried to trace the two phones they knew Nabi had, they found both of them were switched off, with their last known locations in Delhi and Pulwama. 

Investigators then reached Nabi's house in Pulwama and, after sustained questioning, the brother revealed a phone had been given to him, and he had dumped it in a pond. 

Recovery

The suicide bombing in Delhi, the sources said, was carried out while the questioning was on and the phone was recovered only after that. 

"The phone had sustained water damage and the motherboard was also malfunctioning. We managed to recover Nabi's video only a few days later," said a source. 

The video emerged publicly on Tuesday and shows Nabi justifying suicide bombings, despite taking one's life being forbidden in Islam, and calling them acts of "martyrdom".

"One of the very misunderstood concepts is the concept of what has been labelled as suicide bombing. It is a martyrdom operation... known in Islam. Now, there are multiple contradictions; there are multiple arguments that have been brought against it," he says.

Umar says no one can predict when or where they will die, and what is destined will happen. "Don't fear death," he adds chillingly.

After an analysis of the video, psychologist Namrata Ohri told NDTV that while Nabi did not make eye contact with the camera, he seemed very confident and convinced about what he was saying. 

"He is trying to remember what he thought, and he's very confident in what he had scripted. He was trying to convince the audience that whatever he has done or whatever he is going to do is absolutely correct and well-algorithmic and well-programmed. He's very confident in his thought process, too. He is trying to make himself clear very naturally," she said.

Timeline

Sources had earlier said that the video was shot by Nabi in room number 13 of building number 17 in the sprawling Al Falah University. This very room is where the radicalised doctors, who allegedly have links with the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed, made their plans, which involved 2,900 kg of explosives recovered from a room rented in Dr Muzammil Shakeel's name. 

"This would, thus, mean that the video is at least from a week before the blast, and could be much older still. It is not clear from the clip whether Nabi was talking about a suicide bombing he was planning to carry out or talking to others whom his module was trying to radicalise," said an official.

Trump: India's US exports jump despite 50% tariffs as trade tensions ease

India's goods exports to the US rose for the first time in five months in October, jumping 14.5% from September, even as Donald Trump's steep tariffs remain in place.

Exports to India's largest foreign market had dropped sharply last month after 50% US tariffs on India - including a 25% penalty for buying Russian oil - kicked in on 27 August.

The improved data came as Indian state-run oil firms agreed to import more annual liquified petroleum gas (LPG) from the US and Trump exempted many farm goods from reciprocal tariffs that could benefit India.

Trade deal negotiations between the two countries are under way, with an Indian official saying that key aspects of the deal were nearing closure.

The jump in exports to the US came even as India's overall goods exports fell 11.8% year-on-year in October, with 15 of its top 20 markets seeing a decline in bilateral trade.

"Tariff-exempt sectors such as smartphones and pharmaceuticals may have performed better - though this remains a tentative assumption," said Ajay Srivastava of Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI), a Delhi-based think tank, commenting on the latest trade numbers.

"Despite the October rebound, India's shipments to the US have dropped nearly 28.4% between May and October, erasing more than $2.5bn in monthly export value," Mr Srivastava added.

But trade tensions between the two countries appear to be gradually letting up after months of uncertainty.

On Monday, India said it had concluded a first-ever major deal that will see its state-run oil companies sourcing some 10% of the country's annual LPG needs from the US.

Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri described the decision as a "historic development" and said the world's largest and fastest growing LPG market has now opened up to the United States.

The Trump administration has been urging Delhi to ramp up its purchase of US petroleum products and reduce its dependency on Russian oil.

India became one of the biggest markets for Russian oil as Western nations imposed sanctions on Moscow after the Ukraine war started in 2022.

Last year, India bought $52.7bn of Russian crude - 37% of its oil bill - but Trump has reiterated time and again, that the country has agreed to reduce its purchases, something India has not officially confirmed.

Delhi is walking a diplomatic tightrope on energy imports as Russian President Vladimir Putin prepares to visit Delhi early next month to finalise several agreements and projects, local reports say.

Yet trade talks between India and the US - stalled for months over Delhi's refusal to cut Russian oil imports - now appear to be moving quickly despite this.

On Monday, a senior government official told The Hindu newspaper that the first phase of the trade deal is "more or less near closure".

India is also set to benefit from the US's decision to roll back reciprocal tariffs on certain agricultural products such as tea, coffee and spices - a move that, analysts say, would effectively exempt about $1bn worth of India's agricultural exports to the US from duties.

Donald Trump defended Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman over the murder of a journalist and hailed a $1 trillion investment pledge Tuesday (November 18, 2025) as the U.S. President laid on a lavish welcome at the White House.

Mr. Trump moved to consolidate his growing bromance with the de facto Saudi leader, giving him a parade of soldiers on horseback and a military flypast featuring F-35 jets that he said Washington would soon sell to Riyadh.

Opening their White House meeting with praise for the Prince’s “incredible” human rights record, Mr. Trump dismissed the 2018 killing of Jamal Khashoggi, saying “things happened” and calling the dead journalist “extremely controversial.”

Mr. Trump also raged at a reporter, accusing her of “embarrassing” Prince Mohammed with her questions over the murder — which U.S. intelligence has suggested the Prince approved — and saying the visiting royal knew “nothing about it.”

The Saudi Prince responded by saying the murder and dismemberment of Khashoggi inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul was a “huge mistake,” while insisting it had been fully investigated.

The heir to the throne then delighted Mr. Trump by announcing that he was increasing the $600 billion Saudi investment he promised Mr. Trump when the U.S. president visited the country in May.

“We can announce that we are going to increase that $600 billion to almost $1 trillion for investment,” Prince Mohammed said in the Oval Office.

A grinning Mr. Trump asked him to confirm the figure, to which the Saudi royal replied: “Definitely.”

Rose Garden tour

Mr. Trump pulled out all the stops for the Saudi Prince, giving him treatment normally reserved for a state visit to the White House, despite the fact that he is not a head of state.

He welcomed the Prince — who is widely known as MBS — on the South Lawn of the White House as cannon fire boomed out, before they watched the noisy flypast by U.S. military jets.

The 79-year-old Republican then showed the prince a new gallery of presidential portraits by the Rose Garden — including one portraying his Democratic predecessor Joe Biden as an autopen.

Mr. Trump has accused an ageing Mr. Biden of using the automated device to sign presidential pardons, and questioned their legality.

Later in the day First Lady Melania Trump will hold a gala dinner.

Portugal soccer legend Cristiano Ronaldo, who plays in Saudi Arabia, will also be at the White House for the gala day of events, a White House official told AFP.

The President has made a priority of boosting ties with the oil-rich Gulf kingdom, particularly as he seeks to turn the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza into a longer-lasting regional peace.

Mr. Trump said he had pushed the prince to normalise relations with Israel as part of the Abraham Accords that he launched in his first term.

Prince Mohammed said he was working to do so “as soon as possible” but insisted on securing a “clear path of two-state solution” for a Palestinian state first.

Mr. Trump meanwhile reiterated his intention to sell Saudi Arabia coveted F-35 stealth fighters, despite concerns from Israel and warnings from U.S. officials that China could steal technological knowledge about the jets.

In another area of past contention, Mr. Trump will sign a deal on a framework for civilian nuclear cooperation, a U.S. official and a source familiar with the negotiations said.

The 40-year-old Prince has fostered close ties with Mr. Trump and his family over the years, including through investment pledges to the property billionaire-turned-U.S. president.

But the shadow of Khashoggi’s murder during Mr. Trump’s first term, which sparked global outrage and chilled relations between Washington and Riyadh for years, hung over the meeting.

Khashoggi’s widow, Hanan Elatr Khashoggi, told CNN that her husband’s killing had “destroyed my life.”

“I hope they look at the American values of human rights and (democracy)” besides any deal and selling weapons, she said.

Suicide bombing very misunderstood, says Red Fort bomber in unseen video

In a new video that has emerged, Dr Umar un Nabi, the man responsible for the recent Red Fort car blast that killed at least 14 people, is heard talking about how the concept of suicide bombing is “very misunderstood”. Dr Umar, speaking in fluent English, says that what is labelled a “suicide bombing” is actually a “martyrdom operation”, offering a glimpse into the would-be suicide bomber’s radicalised mindset.

Officials investigating the Red Fort blast believe the November 10 explosion was accidental. Dr Umar planned on eventually carrying out a large-scale suicide bombing.

In the video, the doctor-turned-terrorist explains that what is often labelled as suicide bombing is actually a martyrdom operation in Islam.

Umar claims there are arguments and contradictions against it, and describes a martyrdom operation as when a person assumes they will die at a specific place and time, acting against the natural presumption of death.

"There are multiple arguments and contradictions that have been brought against it (suicide bombing). Martyrdom operation is when a person presumes that he is going for sure die at a particular place at a particular time, he goes against the presumption that a particular person is going to die. He is going to die in a particular situation," he said.

According to him, in his case, “we don’t have the situation.”

Investigators believe Umar, the most radicalised member of the "white collar" Faridabad terror module that planned the Red Fort blast, made this video to brainwash individuals.

The November 10 explosion ripped through a busy street near the historic monument, killing at least 14 people and injuring more than 20 others. The force of the blast shattered shopfronts and sent panic across the Old Delhi area, one of the most crowded parts of the capital.

The module linked to the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist group allegedly included nine to 10 members, among them five to six doctors, who worked at the tainted Al-Falah Univerity and used their medical credentials to procure chemicals and materials for explosives.
WHO IS DR UMAR

Dr Umar originally hailed from Pulwama’s Koil village. His relatives have described him as a quiet, introverted man who kept to himself and spent hours reading.

But police sources say Umar’s behaviour had changed in recent months. He had skipped university duties since October 30 and began travelling frequently between Faridabad and Delhi, visiting mosques near the Ramleela Maidan and Sunehri Masjid.

According to the police, he went missing on November 9 following raids in Faridabad that led to the recovery of nearly 2,900 kg of ammonium nitrate from a warehouse and the subsequent arrest of some of his accomplices.

He is believed to have gone underground near Dhauj village, switching off five phones.
